NXT Women’s Champion Io Shirai has declared that NXT is hers now, and one former stalwart of the black-and-gold brand is out to prove otherwise. Shirai will face Sasha Banks in a non-title match on Wednesday night at The Great American Bash.

Banks and Bayley — two former NXT Women’s Champions in their own right — returned to the black-and-gold brand two weeks ago, successfully defending the WWE Women’s Tag Team Titles against Tegan Nox & Shotzi Blackheart.

Shirai offered anything but a warm welcome, clearing the ring of Banks and Bayley with blistering offense.

Banks fired back on Twitter, insisting there would be no NXT for Shirai to lay claim to without “The Golden Role Models.” The Legit Boss challenged Shirai to a one-on-one bout, though it’s clear she doesn’t plan on coming alone, as SmackDown Women’s Champion Bayley will be by her side.

The Genius of the Sky responded, sounding more than happy to oblige, and NXT General Manager William Regal made things official.

Rhea Ripley wants another chance against Charlotte Flair, and Io Shirai wants the opportunity she believes she’s still owed.

Both will get their wish. As first reported by TV Guide, Charlotte will defend the NXT Women’s Championship against Ripley and Shirai in a Triple Threat Match at NXT TakeOver: In Your House.

Ripley and Flair tore down the house at WrestleMania in the first-ever match with an NXT title on the line at the Grandest Stage of Them All. But The Queen parlayed her experience advantage into victory to become NXT Women’s Champion for the first time in five years.

Meanwhile, Shirai deservingly earned the right to challenge Flair by overcoming five other women in a Ladder Match. The Evil Genius of the Sky may have given Charlotte more than she bargained for, as The Queen got herself disqualified during their title tilt, brutalizing Shirai with a Kendo stick until Ripley intervened.

The Joshi Judas wasn’t all that thankful for Ripley getting involved, however, and both saw the other as standing between them and the championship. The Queen took advantage of the turmoil, laying them out during their one-on-one bout.

Charlotte stood tall over both foes on that occasion, but in a match where she doesn’t have to be pinned or submitted to lose the title, can she preserve her reign over NXT?

Rhea Ripley has made it clear that she’s laser-focused on regaining the NXT Women’s Championship. But her path back to another matchup with Charlotte Flair likely goes through Io Shirai, whom she’ll face Wednesday night on NXT.

The Nightmare burst back on the scene for the first time since WrestleMania with her sights set squarely on The Queen and the title she took from her. But Ripley’s return also landed her in The Evil Genius of the Sky’s warpath.

Shirai’s opportunity against Flair was well-earned after emerging victorious from a Six-Woman Ladder Match. But The Queen thwarted Shirai’s challenge with a Kendo stick attack, handing Shirai a disqualification win but not the title. As far as The Joshi Judas is concerned, Ripley can get in line if she wants another championship opportunity.

Which woman will claim victory in this match with serious title implications?
